A. The steam vents will still work if the bag is placed in the microwave with the cook times facing up, but there is a slight chance of leaking through the vents in this orientation.
Q. Due to current media reports is it safe to use plastic in the microwave?
A. Steamfast Europe has become aware of rumours that have been widely circulated which warned consumers about the alleged dangers of using plastics in the microwave. These rumours claim that the combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body, thereby increasing the risk of producing cancerous cells. Excelsior researched these claims, and it is clear that the information is not only misleading, but also unnecessarily alarms consumers.
When used in the microwave, there is no trace level migration of dioxins from Zip’n Steam™ products. This is known because these products are 100% dioxin-free. You also should be aware that dioxins can only be formed when chlorine is combined with extremely high temperatures, such as the temperatures generated in wastes incinerators. Those incinerators produce temperatures of more than 800° C., an extreme temperature that even the most powerful consumer microwave ovens are unable to produce.
Zip’n Steam™ products can be used with confidence when label directions are followed. All bags meet the safety requirements of the European Food Contact Regulations and the US Food and Drug Administration for temperatures associated with defrosting, reheating and cooking, of food in microwave ovens
